Housing 21 60th anniversary celebrations

2024 marks Housing 21's 60th anniversary as a housing association - and we’re inviting all residents to join in with the celebrations!

Throughout the year we will be encouraging residents to get involved and will be capturing some of our favourite photos, moments and stories in a special end-of-year publication.

Vote for your favourite photo in our 60th anniversary photo competition!

As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations, we gave our residents a mission – to share what life at Housing 21 looks like through their camera lens.

Since April, more than 100 residents from across our Extra Care and Retirement Living scheme sent in photos of scheme events, family visits, their pets, the communal gardens and much more.

The entries were fantastic and our judges Chief Executive Bruce Moore, Managing Director of Extra Care Kris Peach and Managing Director of Retirement Living Pam Mastrantonio had the difficult task of shortlisting them.

But we need your help to choose our winners!

We’re asking the public to vote for their favourite photo on Facebook. Each photo will have a number in the left-hand corner, you can let us know what your favourite is by sharing the photo number in the comments.

The three Extra Care photos and Retirement Living photos with the most comments will be crowned our first, second and third prize winners, receiving a certificate and gift voucher.

Head over to our Facebook page to cast your vote – you have until midday on Friday 16 August.

The winners will be announced on World Photography Day on Monday 19 August.

  • Photo competition: rules of entry

We’d love to showcase what living with Housing 21 looks like through the resident lens and are inviting you to send us the favourite photo you've taken. It could be an image capturing community spirit, your favourite pet or beautiful gardens; it's really up to you!

With so many residents, we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be involved so have created some simple rules of entry to make sure it’s fair for everyone!

    1. We don’t want anyone to get into trouble so all photos must be original work, taken by the entrants. It must not be in breach of any copyright, trademark or privacy laws.
    2. For the same reason, it’s important that we have the permission of anyone in the picture to use it on all of Housing 21’s platforms, including the website and social media.  We want to avoid surprising anyone who is camera-shy and suddenly sees their face online!
    3. We know children can be hugely photogenic so if your plan is to sway the judges with the cute smiles of youngsters, you must ensure you have permission from the parents or guardians of everyone under the age of 16.
    4. We have over 23,000 residents so to ensure we can manage the number of entries, we’re initially asking for just one entry per person.
    5. We don’t want to risk missing any of your wonderful photos so to ensure we can file them all safely, please only enter by emailing the Communications Team inbox: communications@housing21.org.uk.
    6. Please make sure you include your name, email address, scheme name and a caption for your photo as well as why you have chosen it; you don’t want to risk someone else getting credit for your entry. Don’t worry, this is just so the Communications Team can keep the entries organised; we will never publish your full name, personal details or your scheme name online.
    7. At Housing 21 we definitely can’t have favourites, which is why when it comes to picking an overall winner, we will be leaving that to others. From the shortlisted entries, the best Extra Care and best Retirement Living photo will be decided by an online poll which will be accessible from our website and Facebook page. So, make sure you encourage your family and friends to get voting!
    8. All entries must be received by midday on 19 July which will allow a suitable amount of time to shortlist the entries and build the suspense until voting opens! Anything submitted after this will be too late.
    9. We will contact the winners via the email address used for your entry – so make sure it’s all correct as you don’t want to miss out.
    10. Housing 21 has the right not to progress entries which are deemed inappropriate or are in breach of the rules. We definitely don’t like doing this, so please follow the rules so we can keep everyone involved.

60th birthdays

We know it's not just Housing 21 who will be turning 60 this year; lots of our residents will be too! So, we’re inviting you to share the limelight with us by getting in touch so we can celebrate your birthdays across our website, social media and end of year publication.

Simply get in touch with the Communications Team, ideally a couple of weeks before your birthday, and they will be happy to help make your big day even more special!

60th wedding anniversaries

If 2024 is the year you and your 'diamond' of a partner will celebrate your 60th wedding anniversary, then we’d love to hear from you.

What's been the secret to a long and happy marriage? What have been your favourite memories? What was your big day like? Take a trip down memory lane with us and if you’re happy for us to do so we can share your anniversary across our website, social media and in our end of year publication. We may even be able to get you in the local newspaper!

Prior to your anniversary, contact our Communications Team so they can tell your story in time for your special day.

It's party time

We’d love you to join us in celebrating the people and properties which have helped to make Housing 21 the organisation it is today – so let’s party!

We’re encouraging each scheme to hold a summer celebration between May – September 2024. Our official anniversary is on Monday 12 August and we’re sure some schemes will choose to celebrate on this date. Details are still being confirmed but all will be revealed by your Local Housing Manager in due course. Remember to send photos of the celebrations to the Communications Team so we can share our favourites across our website, social media and in the end of year publication.

Check out the photos of our celebrations happening across our schemes.
