There is much to do and see in the city, with thriving markets, street entertainers, annual festivals and craft events. The St Lawrence cricket ground, a leisure centre and bowls club are all just a short distance from the court.
Buses run every few minutes from a stop just outside the court into the centre of Canterbury, where you can get a bus, coach or train to the wider area including Chartham, Ashford, Faversham, Sittingbourne, Barham, Sandwich and London. Residents can also choose to use the local dial-a-ride service or one of the city’s reliable taxi companies. Canterbury is a short ride to the coastal areas of north Kent or the ports at Dover and Folkestone.
Within a five minute walk of the court there is a Sainsbury’s Express, Premier convenience store (which also delivers to the court), and a Boots chemist. A further five minutes away, residents can find a Waitrose and Tesco Metro, with plenty more stores still in the city centre.
Newport Court has a range of onsite facilities including a residents’ lounge, kitchen, communal laundry, guest room, stair lifts and Car park.
The court is set in attractive, well-maintained and peaceful grounds with a variety of mature trees, shrubs and flowers. Residents are welcome to get involved with the gardening if they choose. The grounds attract a wide range of local wildlife including birds, squirrels, hedgehogs and a family of foxes. The gardens are age-friendly and everyone is welcome to attend the family barbeques and events held in the gardens in summer.

Residents of this welcoming development enjoy a host of social engagements in the attractive and spacious communal lounge, these will often include groups from the wider local community such as The League of Friends and the British Legion women's section. Other regular activities include coffee mornings, afternoon teas, music afternoons, quiz nights and fish & chip suppers; ad hoc and seasonal events also take place throughout the year. These include charity fundraisers and guest speakers. There will often be barbecues and other events held in the gardens during the summer months.The peaceful surroundings are an ideal place to enjoy watching the wide range of visiting local wildlife in fine weather; those residents with green fingers are welcome to help with the gardening should they choose.
