Eller Beck: supporting a growing population of older people

Skipton has a high and ever-growing proportion of older people, with 23.4 percent of the population aged 60 years or over; nearly four percent higher than the national average.

Eller Beck is situated close to the centre of the historic market town and has been developed in the grounds of a former convent. Homes England approached Housing 21 as they were seeking a specialist provider to ensure the land was regenerated to become an amenity that would be appreciated and well-used by the local community.

We worked closely with the Diocese of Leeds who owned the land, and with Catholic Care who provide the care on site whilst we provide the housing management services.

Eller Beck is the first Extra Care scheme which has employed the expertise of our own in-house interior designer. The result is stunning and provides a welcoming and stylish environment promoting a sense of well-being that is loved by residents and visitors alike.

“We are delighted to have worked with North Yorkshire County Council and Housing 21 in delivering this impressive new facility. Eller Beck Court combines independent living with the reassurance of on-site care and the opportunity to mix with others and enjoy the best of facilities. I am confident it will offer a real alternative for those looking at their housing and care options in later life.”

Cllr Richard Foster, leader of Craven District Council
