Meet Shaf, Business Accountant

In partnership with De Montford University in Leicester, we offer university-level courses to help our employees, like Business Accountant Shaf, build on their skills and further their careers.
Shaf joined Housing 21 in 2019 as a business accountant and after gaining experience in the different business streams within the organisation, he secured a role as a Contract Accountant.
“I was interested in maths and business from a young age and decided to go to University to get my degree and master’s in Accounting and Finance. When I joined Housing 21, I was in the process of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and had one more exam left to complete, which the organisation sponsored.”
When his manager approached him about further development, Shaf was keen to explore his options.
“After looking at the course, I decided to enrol on the level five, University Certificate in Professional Development in Management. It was a great opportunity to grow as a manager.
“The course was nine months and Housing 21 not only funded it but also gave me time off to attend the virtual classes.”
As part of the course Shaf, along with other students, was required to identify an area within the business that he could improve and write a project plan.
“My project focused on streamlining the claims process and I’m pleased to say that it is now being implemented within the department. That’s one of the great things about the course; you can put what you learn into practice and see the results first-hand.”
Shaf’s learning won’t stop there, he is now undertaking a level 7 Leadership course which is also with De Montfort University.
“While I’m still in that mindset, I want to continue to learn and grow, and the great thing about Housing 21 is that they encourage it. It doesn’t matter what role you are in, there are lots of opportunities to undertake courses and everyone has the chance to develop.”
