Meet Corrinne, Strategic Operations Officer

At Housing 21, we understand the value of giving back – whether that’s to our residents, the local community or beyond. This is why we offer up to two days paid volunteer leave each year as part of our fantastic benefits package. Employees can use these days to make a difference to residents at our schemes or the wider community through supporting charitable organisations.

Strategic Operations Officer, Corrinne played a significant role in ensuring our residents can access support to ease financial concerns. The role is all about giving, so it’s no surprise that Corrinne is also passionate about volunteering.

“Volunteering is important to me,” she said.

“I was a listening Samaritan for four years; my daughter and I have baked goods for a homeless charity in the past and I’ve volunteered at my local primary school. I have always enjoyed giving back, but when you work full time sometimes it’s hard to commit to regularly supporting a cause. Taking advantage of the volunteer days that Housing 21 offers means I can still give back in some small way through short term volunteering opportunities without worrying about finding the time to do so.”

Corrinne used her volunteer days to raise money for Green Power Education Trust, a UK charity that uses motorsport to inspire young people to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

“I am a huge Formula One fan, so I jumped at the chance to support Green Power Education Trust at Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex,” said Corrinne.

“It is a fantastic organisation that provides children with kits that have everything they need to build their own car, which they can then race at motorsport venues at Green Power events. The idea is to get more children interested in STEM subjects.

“I was joined by my best friend of 33 years, and we spent the day talking to attendees about the charity and collecting donations to ensure that they can continue with the amazing work they do. It was a great day and I even got to see some of the races, which was a bonus!”

Volunteering is just one of the many benefits that our employees can enjoy, and Corrinne has been able to enjoy a better work-life balance because of our flexible working policy.

“I take the opportunity to work flexibly, which allows me to take my daughter to and from school without worrying that I’m going to be penalised for not being available at that time,” she said.

“Housing 21 offers a lot of great benefits which is a huge part of why I love working here.”
