Residents and employees are giving back to the community at Housing 21’s Retirement Living scheme, Sydney Jones Court, in Manchester.

Everyone at the scheme has united to support a local charity by filling a shoe box with donated items to help those in need this winter.

The residents often give back to their local community, every year they select a charity to support, on this occasion it was Mindful Mums and Harpurhey Mental Health.

Resident Angela champions the activity with the support of fellow residents at the scheme, she said: “We started off by donating shoeboxes to local charities.

“We have previously helped charities such as the local refuge that helps mothers and children. I put a callout for support in the newsletter and everyone has got involved.

“Everyone has been so generous. Last year we helped the local foodbank, and it is so rewarding to be able to give back to those less fortunate than us.”

Residents collected toiletries such as body wash, deodorants, toilet rolls, shampoos, facewipes, and toothpaste, among other items.

In the build-up to the festive season, the residents also crotched hats and blankets for the premature unit at the local maternity hospital.
