There are double diamond celebrations taking place at a Retirement Living scheme in Wirral where one couple will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in the same year their housing association turns 60.

Derek and Brenda married in September 1964 - just one month after Housing 21 became a housing association.

The couple had their ceremony at St Nicholas’ Church in Blundell Sands, Merseyside and reminisce of it being a sunny day with over 100 guests in attendance.

Fast forward to nearly 60 years later, they are now proud parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, living in a Retirement Living scheme in Wirral with Housing 21.

During their 60-year marriage the pair enjoyed travelling and managing caravan sites, mainly in Scotland.

It was after Brenda was involved in a car accident that they decided to retire and return to Merseyside in 1999.

Reflecting on their decision to move into a Housing 21 scheme, Brenda said: "I know we made the right decision moving into a Retirement Living scheme, we are happy and content. Well, it's been nearly 25 years, what more proof do you need?"

The couple look forward to celebrating their diamond anniversary with a cream tea at their scheme, followed by a family gathering organised by their son. They will then join in the celebrations taking place at their scheme for Housing 21’s diamond anniversary.

Derek said: "May I congratulate Housing 21 on reaching 60 years!”

“In the 25 years, I've enjoyed my time with Housing 21, and as you can see, I am well qualified to continue my life with one Local Housing Manager and one CEO – my wife!”
