In a heart-warming display of community support, Morrisons in Loughborough has extended a helping hand to Housing 21 scheme, Sir Robert Martin Court.
The supermarket chain not only donated raffle prizes consisting of gift sets and chocolates to the scheme, but also offered a generous 10 percent discount on groceries purchased by residents for their new soup kitchen.
The gesture that has left everyone at the Retirement Living scheme “buzzing” with gratitude.
The collaboration blossomed after an initiative by the Local Housing Manager at the scheme to secure funding for social activities and to kickstart the soup kitchen for residents. Martine Wilson reached out to Morrisons representative, Jo for assistance, who in return was keen to get involved.
"I would love to come along and enjoy the afternoon with the residents,” said Jo, expressing her excitement about being part of the scheme’s upcoming soup kitchen.
To further develop its relationship with the scheme, the supermarket chain invited the residents at Sir Robert Martin Court to enjoy a coffee and cake over the winter period in its warm café, extending the invite to meet the store manager and share their feedback.
Local Housing Manager at Sir Robert Martin Court, Martine Wilson said: "Jo has become a familiar face for the residents who repeatedly asked after her.
“When our soup kitchen is up and running, Jo will be joining us again- the residents are delighted about this!"
The exchange has left Housing 21 residents smiling and continues to strengthen the bond between the local supermarket store and the local community.
Sir Robert Martin Court is a Retirement Living scheme in Loughborough, with a spacious communal lounge where various social activities such as bingo and indoor curling are held.
