A topping out ceremony was held in Staffordshire to celebrate Housing 21’s latest development reaching its highest point. for Housing 21’s latest development in Staffordshire, Moorland Pearl Court, has taken place celebrating the building reaching its highest point.    

The significant milestone for Housing 21’s Retirement Living scheme, Moorland Pearl Court, is an opportunity to bring together key stakeholders involved in the construction of the scheme.  

Representatives from Housing 21, Challenger Building Services and High Peak Borough Council came together to celebrate the progress of the build.  

Tony Tench, Deputy Chief Executive at Housing 21 said: “It is fantastic to see the development of Moorland Pearl Court in Leek making such good progress.  

"We are thankful for the commitment to the build demonstrated by our partnering contractor, Challenger Building Services.  We also thank Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for their support and Homes England who have granted additional funding for the scheme to provide 57 much needed social rent properties designed specifically for older people”

Once built, the scheme will comprise of 57 one- and two-bedroom apartments available through social rent. The Retirement Living scheme will enable residents to live independently in their own apartment with access to a residents’ lounge, gardens, buggy store, and an on-site Local Housing Manager. 

Kevin Turner, Operations Manager for Cheshire and Lancashire at Housing 21 said: “I’m excited to reach this significant milestone in bringing Moorland Pearl into service. I’m impressed by the speed with which the developers and contractors have reached this stage and the quality of the overall finish so far.  

“I’m looking forward to seeing the scheme come to life over the coming months and to welcoming our first residents later in 2025.”

 Cllr Darren Price, Deputy Leader at High Peak Borough Council said: “It was great to attend the topping out ceremony and to finally see Moorland Pearl Court nearing completion.  The apartments, located so close to the town centre, will be a great addition to Leek."
