"I love living here,” said one resident at Laurel Gardens in its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) where the scheme was rated ‘Good’.  

The report describes the Extra Care scheme, which is based in Atherstone, to be dedicated to fostering a warm and inclusive community where residents can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.  

Inspectors continue to say that the scheme has systems in place to provide person-centred care that achieves good outcomes for its people. 

“If things are within staff's power, they will sort it out. The staff are really good. We have a laugh, and they are like friends.”  

The scheme, which is owned and operated by Housing 21, was praised in its latest report for the improvements that have been made to ensure that the scheme is a safe environment for its residents. 

“People gave examples showing how staff were skilled at identifying if any of their safety needs or preferred lifestyles had changed,” reported the inspectors. 

“They told us staff took action to support them when this happened.” A resident from the scheme echoes this by saying: “Staff would notice if I was unwell and would call an ambulance".

The report explains how people at the Extra Care scheme were invited to complete surveys and provide feedback on the quality of the care they received and make suggestions to develop the service further, with a resident commenting: “I have been asked if I want anything different, but I can't find anything I would want to change.” 

The Extra Care scheme offers independent living with access to 24/ 7 care for residents who require it and also has a range of on-site facilities, including a restaurant, salon and great outdoor spaces.
