A topping out ceremony has been held to mark the completion of the final phase of construction at Housing 21’s latest Extra Care scheme.

Aldaniti Court, a new Extra Care development on Springwood Road, has been delivered in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council and is being constructed by Vistry North East – part of Vistry Group, the UK’s leading provider of affordable mixed tenure homes.

The development is supported by Homes England and will offer 71 affordable one and two-bedroom apartments, all of which will be available for social rent and 12 two-bedroom bungalows available through shared ownership, to local people over the age of 55.

The Extra Care scheme has been designed to promote independent living in a community setting, with a care team on-site 24/7 to deliver planned care packages if needed. Residents will benefit from a range of on-site facilities, including a café/bistro, hair salon, communal lounge and gardens which are also accessible to visitors and the local community.

Bridget Faughnan-Bing, Director of Development and Delivery at Housing 21, said: “We were delighted to see the progress being made on our Extra Care scheme, Aldaniti Court, in Guisborough - being delivered in partnership with Vistry North East and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

“The 83-unit mix of one and two bed apartments and bungalows will provide much needed over 55’s extra care accommodation within Guisborough. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our first residents into their new homes in early 2025.”

The ceremony was attended by representatives from Housing 21, Vistry North East and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and marked the end of the final major phase of construction, readying the building for completion

Lisa Robson, Cabinet Member for Redcar and Cleveland Council, said: “It was brilliant to be part of the topping off ceremony and to hear more about what Aldaniti Court will offer residents in our borough. Even when people have some support needs, they still want to live as independently as possible and extra care housing allows them to do this.

“I was particularly impressed with how well the building has been designed to ensure that it fits in well with surrounding houses and how it’s facilities - such as the café and hairdressers - will be open to the public. It will be very much part of the community, which is so important.”

Andrew Rennie, Development Director with Vistry North East, said: “We are delighted to again be working in partnership with Housing 21 - following successful projects in Peterlee and Tynemouth – and it is fantastic to be completing external works at Aldaniti Court. We now move forward with the final phase of works to fit out and finish the scheme.

“The project has already won two Quality Recognition Awards, from Premier Guarantee, recognising the high quality workmanship and site management procedures of our team, during the construction process.

“I’m sure the new homes will raise the standard of housing for people over 55 in the area and the project will deliver a real asset, complete with facilities the whole community can benefit from and enjoy.”

The Quality Recognition Awards serve as a benchmark for excellence within the housing industry, highlighting organisations that prioritise quality management practices and uphold rigorous standards in their operations.
