This holiday season, the residents, employees and visitors of Housing 21’s Extra Care scheme, Sandstone Court in Telford, have united to make a meaningful difference in their community.
Inspired by the idea of a reverse advent calendar, Housing and Care Manager, Lisa Carpenter brought the concept to life by encouraging everyone at the scheme to donate items daily to support the local foodbank.
She said: “I came across the idea of a reverse advent calendar online, where instead of receiving, you give an item each day to a foodbank or charity.
“It seemed like a wonderful way for us to give back during the festive season, so I invited everyone at Sandstone Court to contribute what they could.”
In November, Lisa reached out to the local foodbank in Telford to identify their most needed items for Christmas.
She goes on to say: “It’s important for us to build these local connections and support services. Some of our residents benefit from the foodbank, so giving back felt especially meaningful.”
The collective effort resulted in a generous donation of food items and toiletries, which were delivered just in time to brighten the holidays for those in need.
